As you describe above, I had no idea you guys were parting ways. I'm very sorry to hear that, and we definitely wish you the best. Keep it up on the weight loss. That is great!

I double-checked, and you can bring food to KS Speedway...so I'm here with a cooler full of water, Diet Coke, bananas and tangelos. Trev and I rented a scanner with two headsets.

Report on the race, please. Any cutting insight into the monstrosities of marketing on the fairway?

I have a Danger Bob story that I never have had occasion to tell, for lack of an audience who may give a crap. This may be my only shot : )

Sr. year of high school, we were told to bring in a ballad to play for the class and hand out the lyrics so we could talk about what makes a ballad a ballad. So I brought in Danger Bob's Sleepin' With My Clothes On (from MegaVega$). The teacher said it did not meet her (undefined) criteria, so I had to scrounge my friends' cd collections for an alternative so I wouldn't fail the assignment. I ended up writing out the lyrics to a Jewel song by hand over lunch. Suck. But the only cool kid in the class, who now lives in Lawrence, naturally, put aside his oh-so-blase attitude and got excited about my selection--probably the first time he'd smiled in weeks.

Well, it's not the greatest story. But it is lightening to have finally told it.

You know, when this album came out, I must have picked it up and put it back half a dozen times in Kiefs, opting for something else each time. Then, just the other day, I was reading a bunch of "best of" lists from the 90s, and this was in the top 10 or 15 of virtually every writer. I never realized quite the mistake I made in not buying it. Oh well. I've been a decade lot to plenty of great music before.
